INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY ✊🏼
INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY
In South African law, every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, as protected by Section 35(3)(h) of the Constitution. Bail is a constitutional right and not an indication of innocence or guilt.
We respectfully call for the granting of bail to the two rugby players accused in the alleged CPUT rape case, whose bail application will continue on 14 and 15 May 2026 at the Wellington District Court.
The accused have not been convicted of any crime and deserve the opportunity to prepare properly for their trial while remaining with their families and under any conditions set by the Court.
We call on the community to stand for fairness, due process, and the principle of innocent until proven guilty. Justice must take its course without trial by public opinion.
